Riverside's public Level 8 descriptions are still young-student friendly: picture analogies, picture classification, teacher-read sentence completion, bead-style number series, and visual nonverbal problems. That is why this page uses more pictures than an upper-level CogAT sample set.
This page does not reproduce publisher items, scoring tables, or norm charts. It gives a bounded set of original practice tasks for learning how to notice relationships.
Work through the practice set
Verbal Battery
Level 8 verbal items are mostly picture-based. Sentence completion is parent-read here, matching the teacher-read format.
Picture Analogies

- foot
- hand
- book
- umbrella
Show worked solution
Answer: A. A mitten goes on a hand. A shoe goes on a foot, so A completes the same relationship.

- dog
- bird
- shoe
- apple
Show worked solution
Answer: A. A nest is a place for a bird. A doghouse is a place for a dog, so A matches.
Sentence Completion

Show worked solution
Answer: B. The top row changes shape to a diamond but keeps the same color. The bottom row should become a diamond and keep its blue color.
Paper Folding
The paper is folded in half and one hole is punched near the fold. What does it look like when opened?
- one center hole

CogAT Grade 2 practice questions
Are these actual CogAT questions?
No. These are original CogAT-style practice questions written for Reasonwell Press. They are not actual test questions and are not copied from a product item bank.
Why does Grade 2 CogAT practice use pictures?
Riverside describes Level 8 verbal items such as Picture Analogies and Picture Classification, and Level 8 sentence completion is teacher-read. This set keeps that younger-grade format in mind.
Should my child take the whole PDF at once?
Usually no. Use one battery or one subtest at a time, then open the answer key and talk through the rule calmly.
Does this PDF predict a CogAT score?
No. It is for format familiarity and reasoning discussion. CogAT scores are normed publisher scores, and districts decide how to use them.
Sources used for format context
The questions are original. These official sources were used only to confirm public format and score-context facts.
